3 Idiots

3 idiots is an entertainer based on Chetan Bhagat's bestseller, Five point someone. The story is loosely related to the book. It is a story of three friends, Raju(Sharman), Farhan(Maddy) and Rancho(Amir), who join the country's best engineering college.

While Raju and Farhan are studious, Rancho is the odd one out. He is against the education system in India, and believes that learning should be passionate and practical. The movie is about how he explains the same to his friends and the director of the college Viru Sahastrabudhhe, aka Virus(Boman). Mean while he also falls for Pia (Kareena Kapoor).

Raju Hirani was all set to make the audience laugh and cry. The movie is a complete entertainer, and all the actors palyed their part well. The effort spent on deciding the casting did not go waste. Raju Hirani got just the perfect players for the roles. Personally, I liked the character of Chatur, aka Silencer.

To cut the long story short, the movie is a must watch for those looking for a complete entertainer.

My Rating: 4.5
My Verbal Rating: It's just awesome. Don't miss it.

Aarya - II

Someone once told me that this movie sucks big time. Respecting that Mr.Someone's opinion I refrained from watching this movie. However after good enough time after the release, recently I thought why not give it a try. After watching, now I am trying to find out that Mr.Someone.

This movie is a sequel to a wonderful entertainer of 2004, Aarya. You need to understand, in India a sequel doesn't mean you would be finding the same story of part-I getting continued. A similar concept, is what a sequel means in this country. The reason behind it is LOVE. Yes, our audience love to see the concept of love in every movie. So if part-I had a successful love story then what is left in part-II? Simple another love story has to start. Heroine changes, Hero is constant. MALE DOMINATION :-)

So just like the part-I, its all about love and sacrifice which every time is offered only by our hero, Allu Arjun. As usual with hatred for the hero, the heroine falls in love with the side-hero. Then the remaining movie runs around our hero getting back the babe. Though the story outline is not new, the entertainment is absolutely fresh. Also this guy Navdeep, I should say, got a very good break by this movie.

Padmashri. Brahmanandam garu, did marvelously. His humour and the way he presented it was exemplary. The other good part of this movie is, the heroine who used only to expose did not have to do that. She was decent. No indecency. May be the whole family got bored of her cleavage :-)

By all these means this movie is a very good entertainer. The ROI is 100%.

My rating: 4/5
My verbal rating: Good to watch with everyone in the family. A very good entertainer.

Rocket Singh - Salesman of the Year

"Ethical movie of the Year"

Harpreet Singh Bedi(Ranbeer Kapoor) is an honest and ambitious salesman who believes in doing things the right way. After passing out from college with minimal marks, he decides to make his mark as a salesman. He joins in a company as a trainee, and soon finds out that the sales world runs on bribery and corruption. He innocently complains to a client organization about the bribery. Instead of the expected appreciation, he is treated as a loser and denied field work.

He secretly starts his own sales corporation while working as a trainee. His company has no employees, but only partners. He reaches out to clients and offers services honestly. He uses the old mantra of selling goods of higher quality for lesser cost. Soon his business becomes a great success. The rest of the movie is about how his bosses learn the lessons of running an ethical business.

Coming from the Chak de India team, Rocket Singh is a must watch movie for everyone. Ranbir Kapoor played his part really well, and I can surely say that he is a very promising actor. The best part of this movie is, there are no useless songs that disturb the flow of the story. All the songs are in the background. Shazhan Padamsee had a very short role to play, so I can not really comment on her acting.

My rating: 4/5
My verbal rating: Good for a onetime watch; can learn some ethics out of the movie

Avatar

Avatar, the new movie from the director of Terminator and Titanic, occurs midway through the 22nd century. Jake Sully(Sam Worthington), a wheelchair-bound ex-marine takes up the mission of his dead brother, with the promise of getting his legs back if he helps the government in achieving the mission. He travels across the universe to Planet Pandora.

Pandora is inhabited by a tribal race called the Na’vi. Jake is sent in to learn their ways so that he can help relocate them and the greedy humans can take over their habitat, which contains a large ore of Unobtainium (yes, the material used to build a vessel in the 2003 movie, The Core). Avatars, are artificially created Na'vi bodies, into which humans can transfer their consciousness using Avatar technology. Early in the film, Jake, in his Na'vi body gets lost in Pandora, and is rescued by the daughter of the Na'vi chief. The rest of the movie is about how Jake becomes one of them, and saves Pandora from human greed.

I liked:
1. The beauty of Pandora: Pandora looked like Al Gore's dream planet, a total tropical beauty. The many legged horses, helicopter-like bugs, terrifying tigers ... all of them were created with utmost detail.

2. The war: The war between the Na'vi and the future machines of humans was well done. The director took no sides. Equal damage was done on both the sides.

I hated:
1. The story: The story of this movie is not exceptional. Lot of attention was paid to the graphics and the creation, but the story was too simple. With all the time and money that went into the picture, I expected a better story line.

Finally, the movie is a visual masterpiece, but it would have been awesome if it had a worthy concept or story line.

My Rating: 3/5
My Verbal rating: All the movie has is visuals. 2D did not entertain me. You might want to try the 3D version.

2012 - My Theory

Yepp, I was one of the early goers for this movie. However I have refrained from writing a review on this movie, pondering if I am really capable to write about such a creation. I am sure I can use the word creation rather than "making" for this movie. It is truly a creation of disaster one can't even imagine.

However after watching the movie and assimilating the facts the movie was based upon, I tried correlating certain recent events happening in the world. I thought I should key in my thoughts and just leave it for my readers to think.
  1. China is building a dam on river Brahmaputra. Just google it and you would find a lot of controversial news.
  2. China is claiming Tibet is theirs and also they claim Arunachal Pradesh is theirs.
  3. Labor from both of these places are being hired by China in the dam work.
  4. China has moved a lot of armed forces across the borders, however India does not respond to it.
  5. India says there is no problem with China
Why is all this happening? Whenever borders of India were covered up heavily with other countries defense forces India never sat quiet. This is the first time.

Any other thoughts/facts I shall post them here. Lets just give it a thought.

De Dana Dan - A Storyless Wonderful Comedy

The million dollar question that should come to your mind after watching this movie is "Why are Sunil Shetty, Akshay, Katrina and Sameera Reddy engaged in the movie???". The only answer;  they are the unnecessary selling factors involved for a wonderful comedy movie.

If I need to recompile and tell you what the story line is, it becomes the tough part. However if I need to think how long I was laughing then I can happily tell you that it was almost all the tenure of the movie. The comedy was so great that you need to take deep breaths in-between and drink some water. The entire movie hall gets filled with NitrousOxide. This movie has one more feature, it can be watched by everyone in the family together. Full PaisaVasool.

My rating: 3.5/5
My verbal rating: Its a must watch for everyone who can understand Hindi.

Kurbaan (2009) - A Karan Johar's Flop Idea

I think the first thing most of the people are thinking about, when it comes to this movie, could be the hot scene shot with Saif and Kareena. The reality is, there was nothing except that Kareena showed her worthless back. Even if you liked it and feet sizzled, then there is nothing else in the movie, which gives you that feeling.

NewYork, Fanaa and the foolish thrilling masala of Final Destination III, if you mix concepts of all these three and try to make a movie, with some good actors, then one would arrive at KURBAAN.

Its a story where the beautiful and gullible Kareena falls in love with the super flirt Saif. Kareena already has a US citizen ship and using that both of them go to USA. They settle down in a remote county in New York. They get introduced to a neighboring family. One day, a girl from that family comes to Kareena and asks her for help. Before Kareena figures out what is happening the girl goes missing. Kareena tries to investigate and finds that all those family members are terrorists; I am sorry, Jihadis, that's what they call themselves. Now the ugly part is even Saif belongs to them.

From here the story is almost nonsense. Special effects of Final Destination have been copied. Stupid FBI plots of Bollywood style are shown. For example, at the end ... an FBI super cop and some  FBI sleuths run behind one terrorist in a subway station. Mind you, this guy has an explosive. After a decent chase, the terrorist runs to a corner and realizes there is no escape; so he triggers the bomb. The station is blown out, many get killed; however, the terrorist who blasted himself, his body could be found. The FBI super cop comes out with some scratches (he was running close to the assassin) while the remaining FBI guys are all dead. BOLLYWOOD ESTYLE ......

Now ... My point of view

India is a country which is a friendly state to USA. Our people have gone to the US for education, employment and business. India, today  is getting a lot of revenue from the US. In such a country why are we making movies which are anti-US??? Is the mafia forcing Bollywood directors make such movies so that at least some set of people start developing hatred towards it???

This movie should be actually banned in India. I am very sure the expected audience for this movie are Pakistanis and Afghans or Iranians. Indians never fired a single bullet or even threw a stone at anyone in the world. We love peace. Even after lakhs of our people die in terrorist attacks every year, we are just trying to talk of only peace.

So there is no point in making such a stupid movie by Indians.

My rating: 2/5
My verbal rating: Worthless

Killing anyone is not the solution. World peace is about extending love. Be it Jesus or Allah or a Hindu god or any one and everyone preached only one thing: Love everyone as you love yourself.

Ajab Prem ki Gajab Kahani

Complete all your nature calls :-) buy popcorn, soft drink, water, nachos, cakes whatever and just get settled down before the Certificate of the movie is shown; cos you are up for an amazing fun ride. Right from the word go till the end of the movie there isn't a minute that passes without everyone laughing.

Okay, now the boring part, the story. Regular story, idle lad of a middle class guy who does nothing except that he falls in love with a pretty woman, who (the girl) as usual loves some one else. Doesn't it sound pretty boring. Yes it is. If you want a story movie nope then this movie is not for you. However if you still attempt to see this movie you shall never regret.

Ranbir, I think its genes, that he does acting so well. To say it in the Indian way, its Khandani :-). I also felt that Katrina how much ever she tries can never get rid of her western accent.  Both did pretty well.

"Run away Bride" concept has become very common these days. Almost in all the movies the heroin gets ready to wed another chap and suddenly just few minutes before the marriage she realizes that he is not the one. And THE ONE is none other than the hero. And that's it .... she runs away.

Directors of these so called Bollywood, Tollywood, Kollywood, Sandalwood made the values of marriage a fun. So brothers, I mean you directors, will understand this when either your daughters or would-be wives run out of the marriage you would realize how funny it can be.

Readers might think that I am getting serious unnecessarily, but friends there is a lot of influence on us from movies.

Well ...

My rating for this movie: 3/5
My verbal rating: Don't miss it; no story; but amazing comedy and you shall burst, laughing.

Surrogates

All right lets talk about a simple concept, Yahoo avatars. Click on the last two words if you want to know what it is. Now that you know ... any user with an account on yahoo or any other such site, can create his own avatar. The avatar might completely look different from what the user might be. And with this avatar I publish my own views or do whatever I want to in the world of web.

Similarly if you could create a robo-avatar for yourself and send it into the outside world, where you are still the mind for it, then it would be called as a suggorgate.

So this movie fictiously says that there shall be a time where everyone is home and its their avatars that go outside. Men are dreaded in their beds controlling their surrogates. Leaving this concept the remaining story is almost like the story of iRobot.

The movie lacks every element of a movie viz like action, comedy, drama etc. It was a complete of waste of time for me. So my suggestion readers, please stay away from this movie.

My rating: 1/5
My verbal rating: Please miss it; You can watch it on HBO sometime
(HBO advantage: You can change the channel if you don't like )

Inglorious Basterds

I am really wondering what should I write about this movie. It starts as a documentary showing us each and every Chapter which are to be compiled finally and ...

Well, I would give you a basic story. Its Nazis versus the Jews. A Jewish family gets killed by German soldiers and the lone person who escapes that tragedy is the beautiful lady below. Time gives her a chance to take revenge.

In an another episode there are a team of American soldiers who are named as BASTERDS by the Germans for their brutality in killing the Germans. These people make a plot to hit the German top brass big time.

Now the remaining part of the picture is their individual strategies against the Germans which become a combined effort by accident and lead to the Nazi downfall.

The movie is a must watch and that too in a theater. Every part of the movie has something to rejoice and has some funny element along with certain anxiety. Brad Pitt and Christoph Waltz were extremely good in their action.

As the above picture narrates, its the BASTERDS' bat versus Nazis' heads.

My rating: 3.5/5
My Verbal rating: Must watch; in a theater

Wake up SID - (Before you make the audience doze off)

Take out a busy day of your life; book tickets for this movie for the last show of the day and I bet you would doze off before the break. *-Conditions apply, like theater ambiance etc.  :-)

Well its a routine story of a lazy, aimless, dull son of a hardworking, rich dad. The guy is goalless, does not pass the final exams and lands up in nothing. Irritated father scolds him and son leaves home. Ends up in a girl's home whom he got introduced to and helped some time ago. Rest is BS. Does any part of the narration sounds even a little novel or interesting?

The other worst part of the movie is there in the picture above. Bollywood is primarily about glam coefficient, next would be acting. We don't go to the movie to see some one so charmless so dull, I mean she does not have anything to be a heroine. I am not trying to insult anyone here, however everyone has their own place. Just as I cannot be the President of the United States, Konkana Sen Sharma does not deserve to be in Bollywood.

My rating for the movie: 2/5
My verbal rating: Please skip it; zero value for time or money or anything

Ganesh - Just Ganesh

I never dreamt even in my wildest dreams that I would go to a movie starring Ram on the first day that too after buying the tickets in Black. But then there is always a first time for everything... :P

Ganesh - Just Ganesh is a typical masala Telugu movie which tries to be different at times but then is gobbled up by the intention to reach out to the mass crowd...!!!

Movie starts well with our good Samaritan hero, Ganesh (Ram of Devadasu fame) putting his hand up to help fructify his friend's love. To attain this, he has to show fake love towards Divya (Kajal Agarwal). Divya falls for him. However our hero falls in real love while faking. Just before the interval, the heroine gets to know about his act. Post-interval is all about how he tries to prove his love. He follows a novel method to justify his act. I think this is something which would instantly connect with the audience.

Ram does well but in most of the scenes he tries to imitate Pavan Kalyan. as always. I think Ram has good potential as actor and it would be good if he creates his own style. Kajal Agarwal looks good. I am seeing her for the second time in one week. Saturday it was Magadheera and now it is Ganesh. I must say I am fast becoming a fan of this lovely lady. Acting-wise she is ok.

All in all, I think this movie is a decent time-pass but then there are 3-4 unnecessary songs which test your patience. There is decent comedy, not path-breaking but time-pass. I think you can watch this movie if there is no other movie ticket available. :)

My rating: 2.5/5

BLUE - Music Review

Here’s my music review of BLUE. The first underwater movie of India. Probably, the most expensive movie ever to hit the Indian movie industry. It is not a coincidence that two of the most expensive movies of Bollywood so far, Kambakkht Ishq and BLUE had Akshay Kumar as the hero. This shows the tremendous confidence the producers have in him when it comes to raking in the moolah. Hats off to Akki. !!!!

Well, coming to the music of this movie. It has A.R. Rehman composing music. This is the first time that A.R. Rehman is scoring music for an Akshay Kumar movie. As an Akshay Kumar fan, I had huge expectations from the album and it didn’t disappoint me.!!!

As they say, A.R. Rehman’s music is like slow poison. The more you hear it the more you like it. It is true even with this album as well. When I first heard the album, only two songs caught my imagination. But now after repeatedly listening to the album, I can say that there are 5 to 6 great songs and have the potential to be chartbusters. In fact, some of them already are. !!!

The album starts with Chiggy Wiggy, the much-hyped song featuring Kylie Minogue, the Australian popstar. The song definitely has an international feel to it in the initial two minutes. But honestly, I couldn’t understand the lyrics initially except for Chiggy wiggy.!!! I am sure this is going to be the case even with an average music buff in India. But we are in for a pleasant surprise after two minutes when the great Sonu Nigam enters the scene. There is a rustic feel to it the moment he comes in and the song takes a completely different route from here on in. I am damn sure that people are going to love this song from this part onwards. All in all, a wonderful song and catchy from the moment you listen to it. Final verdict. Definite chartbuster !!!!

Second in the album is Aaj Dil Gustaakh hai . This has a distinctly cool and simple feel to it. It is reminds you of beach songs, seriously. Sukwinder Singh and Shreya Ghoshal are behind the microphone for this song. This song confuses me always. Sometimes I like it . Sometimes I don’t. It is good in parts. This may not a big hit but it is definitely a timepass kind of song. Final verdict. Average song.!!!!

Third is Fiqraana. Music for the first 10 seconds reminds you of title song of Delhi-6 and also Kaise Mujhe tum milgaye from Ghajini, both of which are Rehman compositions. But the similarity ends just there as Fiqraana is a completely different song from the other two. This is a song which will catch your imagination the very first time you hear. It is just awesome and pumps in the adrenaline. Sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Vijay Prakash who also has the song Lat Uljhi from Yuvvraaj to his credit. This comes as a surprise as Lat Uljhi was a complete classical song and Vijay Prakash does great justice to this song. In fact, he is fantastic. A trivia – This song was supposed to be sung by Farhan Akhtar but he declined the offer due to some unknown reasons. Final verdict. Definite Chartbuster !!!!

Fourth in line is a slow sad song Bhoola Tujhe by Rashid Ali who sang Kabhi Kabhi Aditi from Jaane Tu Ya jaane na. When I first heard this song, I didn’t like it that much but after 2-3 hearings, this touched my heart. seriously. Lyrics are pretty well written for this song and Rashid Ali does well in this song. This song puts in a calm influence on you. It is pretty decent and I must say has the potential to be a big hit. Final verdict. Good song !!!

Next comes Blue Theme Music . Mark my words. This will just blow you away. Truly amazing. Sung by a host of singers. This is bound to raise goosebumps all over. Will act as a perfect charger for everyone. Magnificent. The more you listen to this the more it captivates you. I must say such a song can be created only by the maestro A.R. Rehman. Final verdict. Definite Chartbuster.!!!!!

After this comes Rehnuma. It starts as a slow romantic number. Somewhat similar to many songs sung by Alisha Chinai but soon goes into a completely different orbit. Once it reaches its crescendo. it is just ethereal. I am sure people are going to love this after 2-3 hearings. Sung by Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal, this is going to be a rocking ride. Oh yes. You will love it and I am sure this will be a chartbuster soon. Final verdict. Definite chartbuster. !!!!!

Last song in the album is Yaar Mila tha. Sung by the melodious duo, Udit Narayan and Madhushree. This is a typical shararat wala song of a Hindi film but you will be in for a pleasant surprise. Udit Narayan and Madhushree make this great song even more wonderful with their soothing voice. This will be a major hit particularly in the Hindi belt. Final verdict. Definite Chartbuster.!!!!

Overall the album has Five chartbusters, One good song and one average song. I am sure this is one of the best albums of this year. So far this year, I thought Love Aaj kal was the best album but now I have second thoughts after listening to BLUE. I won’t be surprised if this emerges as the best album of this year. Truly magnificent album. Go get it!!!!!

The taking of Pelham 123

The taking of Pelham 123 reiterates few of the principles John Travolta teaches Hugh Jackman in Password Swordfish; The principle of misdirection being the important one.

John Travolta once again features as the bad guy and this time takes 18 passengers as hostages on a local train in New York. He makes a demand for $10Million. Its just a misdirection. Denzel Washington plays the role of a station chief who unfortunately takes that chair only this day. The story runs as a drama with discussions between John and Denzel and the plot unfolds very well. Its fun to watch. At times you would feel that the story has a tinch of the movie PhoneBooth.

However we may not classify this movie as extraordinary or exceptionally good. The ending could not create the necessary bang. However its just good and fun.

My rating for the movie: 3/5
My verbal rating: Watch it once for fun. You might even watch it at home, if you do not want to spend time or money going to a theater.

Anjaneyulu

If there was anything that was missing in this movie, I am sure its just screenplay... hmmm may be a little good music, some reality in the fights, some original story, some decent makeup for the actress Nayantara ...... what else am I missing ... I think a little less vulgarity in the dialogues also could have been a factor.

Hope you are not thinking that I am confused. Nope its not me, its the director of this movie. I think freak worked with the acclaimed director Puri Jagannath. So the first slide he has on this film was a thanks to him. Then a movie which is almost a copy of Pokiri in most of the angles.

In Andhra movies, if you observe every idiot who does not even weigh as much as a paper weight hits top body builders. There is no exception to this movie too. Our hero Ravi Teja who does not even know the meaning of biceps wreaks super built up guys. How interesting!!!

The heroine's presence is absolutely for the sake of it. There is nothing for her in this movie. And as usual Ravi Teja behaves in the same old rude style with heroine and parents.

The movie has only interesting character, Padmashri Brahmanandam garu. I should say the director was clever enough to cover his role till the end of the movie to keep people in their chairs. Neither I am very sure this movie would not have stayed so long. Without his presence and fun the movie is worth nothing.

So ...

My rating is 2/5
My verbal rating is ... "Watch is for the comedy by Padmashri Bhramandam garu"

Luck - Its all about money, honey!

The above wallpaper misses two other important cast of the movie. Sanjay Dutt and Mithun da. Well as my title says its all about money once again. Its a mortal combat that is taken up by freaks just to earn money.

The plot of the movie goes very well. People who are assumed to have decent luck in life are chosen  and invited for a deadly game. People die in this game. The very few who come out of it win huge money. The way the movie, moves strategically is fine, except that there is nothing in the movie that you can take home.
Not much of a music nor comedy nor great action. Just a little time pass.

If you are very conscious about the way you spend your money then you may refrain and wait for some TV channel to show this sometime, else you might want to watch it once.

My rating for this movie: 2.5/5
My verbal rating: Okay types - can watch can miss

Hangover

This was considered one of the funniest Hollywood movies of the times, at least in India. This movie starts with a man exposing his nasty bum. The movie goes around a group of friends visiting Las Vegas just a couple of days before one of theirs marriage. Now  the groom goes missing and all the friends forget what they did last night. So now they are busily searching for the friend.

Leaving the stupid story aside, I wonder how the censor board of India just allowed this movie to play in India. There are lakhs of freaks who say gay sex should not be allowed, some more who say the STAR Plus reality show “sach ka saamna” should be banned. But a movie which was only concentrated on masturbation
and vulgar means of sex was allowed to play in India. How unfortunate!

One of the guys makes a few months old kid hold his wrist and moves it up and down. Isn’t this called child abuse? This is a country where at least constitutionally women are respected and how come using the word “Mother F***ers” is justified and that too just like any other common word?

Is there no one to take care of such nasty things entering India? People what are you all appreciating? There is a difference between decent romance and vulgarity. Showing a couple making love in decent fashion might be called as a drama, but exposing a dirty ass and shaking hands to masturbate and fucking a tiger are called vulgarity. If the Americans are crazy to do all that, let them.

This is not what we even talk among friends right?
Its time the ministry of films or broadcasting – whoever, has to take care those stupid movies are not shown in our country.

Kaminey - Mere ticket ke paise vaapas de..!!!!!

Before I start my review of Kaminey, let me first make a few revelations about me.. I am writing a review for the first time. So, there won't be any diplomatic phrases in this. Second thing, I generally watch movie as a typical Indian movie-goer. I keep the baggage of being an engineer, an IIM drop-out outside the theater... !!!!

Let's begin...

When I saw the first promo of Kaminey, I thought this would be similar to Omkara... The dark promos accentuated my feeling... But there were a couple of songs which caught my interest... And it was basically because of those two songs that I went to the movie.... So, in short, I didn't have high expectations from the movie.

But film critics had something else in mind and all of them gave a consistent rating of 4/5. This created a sort of minute expectation inside me that the movie might be good.

Coming to the movie, it started with Charlie (Shahid -1 who pronounces 'F' for 'S'. So, Saale becomes Faale and so on.) narrating the story about him and his brother Guddu (Shahid  - 2 who stammers while talking). The movie starts with three parallel stories and there would be a lot of confusion in following the movie for the first 30-40 minutes. You need to concentrate hard to make it out. I felt that the director took a long time to set the context of the film. By the time we are clear of the proceedings, it is almost interval time. .Just before the interval, there is a case of mistaken identity and both brothers get swapped. This is the point where I felt the movie would become interesting....!!!

Unfortunately, the second half disappointed me a bit. It was just a bitter pill to swallow at the end..Story wise, there is nothing new in the movie. It is a typical Bollywood potboiler... But it was very slow-paced. It became boring at times... Also, there was a liberal dose of Marathi in the movie which adds further to the confusion..Fortunately, I know Marathi and could enjoy the Marathi part. In fact, it is Amol Gupte who provides relief in the movie with his histrionics as a Marathi Maanus Bhope Bhau.

Let's first talk about the positives of this movie.
1. Dhan te naan..... This song rocks and I am sure everyone would enjoy it in the theater.
2. Amol Gupte's acting.

Now coming to the negatives...
1. Too slow
2. Too dark
3. Too confusing for an average movie-goer
4. Lot of preference given to the technicalities of the movie rather than on the story.

My rating is 1.5/5

I know most critics have given a rating of 4 to this movie but generally most of the critics don't write a review keeping an average movie-goer in mind. They think that they are too intellectual and that's why they give shabbily edited movies like Kaminey and Dev D higher ratings. I am still confused on how some critics gave 5/5 to Dev D!!!!!

Anyways, in a nutshell, this movie made me cry out in vain... Kaminey... Mere Ticket ke paise vaapas de de...!!!!

Magadheera

Upon a lot of request from my friends who are hard core fans of Chiranjeevi, I finally made up my mind to watch this movie. I thought its better to have a bad start of the day rather than a bad ending, thus booked for morning show in PVR Bengaluru

I do not want to narrate much. However these are my observations.

1. By doing a risky feat one does not become a hero, you need to have the charm; something like your dad.

2. Its a call center attitude to use anything and everything in every possible way to show utilization. Similarly here as because they have paid for the herione and she being a fresher the director showed her cleavage everywhere and anywhere possible. If the actress is there in the scene then its compulsory that she has to expose the cleavage

3. I assume that all the South Indian directors take the audience for granted. They show that hero can do anything and everything. This movie is no exception for the above assumption.

Guys if you are hardcore fans of Sri Chiranjeevi and want to encourage his son, just because of it, please go ahead and watch.

Neither its a movie that can be skipped.

Request to film industry: Stop slapping Padmasri Sri Brahmanandam. You can generate comedy even without slapping him. Every kid in the industry is slapping him in films. Its unbearable

Love Aaj Kal - Everthing about understanding Love

Love these days is sometimes misunderstood by many people. I remember a quote, I read long time ago; "A young man in love is actually not in true love, its just a sexual fantasy". This is an unfortunate truth with many of the young these days. However there might be a situation that you might start with a fantasy but internally you are emotionally attached to the other person. You would realize this only when you miss them.

This is the concept on which the movie is wonderfully directed. Saif a guy with lots of ambitions meets Deepika who has her own set of goals which are in a different direction to Saif's. They both date one another for more than year and then think of breaking up to achieve their goals. They arrange a breakup party in a hotel which is owned by our love guru, Rushi Kapoor. After the party Rushi tries to preach Saif about love and tries to make Saif realize that they were in love. The movie goes on making both realize the importance of one another in their lives.

Its worth a watch. And just like any other Saif's movie, its filled with a lot of fun.

Kambaqt Ishq - Kis kambaqt ne banaya???

Okay, now how many of your know about Kamal Hassan's Bharamchari  which was released in Tamil first and then dubbed in Telugu??? If you don't know about that movie then let me tell you ....
If you take this movie Bhramachari and remove the following ...
1. Fun
2. Decency
3. Sentiment
and add ...,
1. A little vulgarity
2. A lot of nonsense
you just get Kambaqt Ishq out of it. How simple? Ain't it?

The movie doesn't even copy the story of the South properly. Its a tale of two people, a stunt man and a model turned doctor lady. Both of them have one common feature, they hate marriage. Ofcourse our stunt master loves to go on dates but our model is against that too. Now these two people try and spoil the life of their cousins who get married to one another. Later they try and cover up and eventually love one another and finally get married.

This movie according to me did the following mistakes.

1. Making the movie itself
2. Unnecessarily pulling Sylvester Stallone and Denise Richards into the movie
3. Atleast Stallone should not have accepted to work in this film.
4. Denise was brought only to add more masala to the film in which Kareena had already shown her crippled butt. So even the exposing and nonsense did not help in getting some profits on the movie.

Ultimately its just a waste of time and money.

New York - The ugly aftermath of 9/11

NewYork, I would say is a must watch for everyone who understands Hindi. It depicts how the FBI abused and tortured  human beings under the name of interrogation. It showed how people were tortured and later released them due to lack of evidence and the fate of such people.

I would urge everyone to watch it.

Also, I would challenge the jury which gave awards to Slumdog millionarie; guys if you have guts, its not the Slumdog millionaire that should get Oscars, its this movie.

PVR - Angels and Demons

I am a hardcore fan of PVR, especially the one at Forum Mall, Bangalore. I try and watch every movie in this multiplex. However this time I just waited for almost a month for them to release Angels and Demons, which did not happen.

Via this blog I would like to communicate to the management of PVR ...

Sir, I am not sure what is your problem, but you have disappointed all those people who love to watch movies at PVR. Request you to not disappoint people atleast from the next time.

Kick - Buckle the belt tightly :-)

This is the best comedy movie of the times. The elders may not like the comedy which has a little bit of taboo added to it, however the young would certainly love it.

As usual, like in anyother RaviTeja's movie, the hero doesn't have any proper ambition or career. However here the hero loves to have a tinch of adventure/risk in everything he does. If he feels that there is no risk or fun in any task then he creates problems for himself and then tries solving it to satiate his hunger for risk and adventure. Now this guy falls in love with the herione who is a quoxotic. The story moves further where the hero is proven as a big theif. The remaining part of the story is a chase between the hero and a police officer who is none other than the fiance of the heroine.

Check it out. I would recommend it watching twice with a month's gap.

Arundhati

Probably I am the last one writing a review on this, however. I am actually a little afraid of horror movies. People scared me that its the likes of Exorcist etc. However after my wife insisted I booked for it.

On the contrary its a very perfectly directed movie which is not so frightening except for few powdered faces which try to scare you in vain. Yepp the playback music guy did enough to scare you well. The movie runs around the same old concept, a man who dies and wants to take revenge. A little twist to it is, the demon is a rapist.

There are a few things which directly show the director's flaws but you know you can compromise these for a relatively good movie. There is nothing, absolutely nothing to be scared about and its a must watch for everyone.

My rating: 4/5
My Verbal rating: A cool ghost movie :-) (A ghost which can be killed by a weapon ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa)

Billa

This movie is a shameless improper copy of the hindi Don, the one in which SRK was the main cast. Now that you know the story. Let me tell you the super twists. Mr. Krishnam Raju is a CBI officer from India. Got one shock??? Now anyone with basic knowledge of English language would puke if he or she listens to this guys' English.

Now the second one, be ready ...
Yes this white colored byson is the first heroin. Any one who is not deranged or may even deranged people would never pick such a nasty looking heroin. There are hardly any dialogues for her. One more twist. She is killed by Billa himself. There was one love making scene between this byson and our muscular hero. However, he was gasping for breath under her.

The other heroin is Anushka. I think she was taken to only expose and she did it well. ;-)

Now its the same stupid story except that there is some good humor. A lot money has been spent on luxurious cars and I think a lot on the shooting in Malaysia. Ultimately the movie is a big flop trying to show nothing except a byson.

You can watch it when it comes on TV. Wait don't think that it is going to take long. I am very sure it is going to be very very soon.

Aakasamantha - A Sentimental Documentary

This is no nonsense movie. A very good one to watch with family. The story completely runs around a father and his love and affection for his only daughter. This is a must watch for all parents. Comedy is properly placed in the movie.

The father's affection for the daughter is properly shown and also teaches a lesson to all those guys who just took away girls away from their fathers in the name of love.

I would give a rating of 4/5
My verbal rating: Must watch for all parents

What happened to PVR Bengaloru???

There was a time during my childhood, that the local theatres used to switch off the Air conditioning in the theater before the climax. By the end of the movie people would be coming out of the theater sweating. I was told that if people go and complain to the district collector he would have someone sent in disguise to the theater and check for the complaint and if found guilty their licenses are suspended.

After years, I think I found its time to write to the District Collector Bangalore regarding PVR Cinemas in Forum Mall. These guys are worse than those in my childhood. The AC is being switched off even before 70% of the movie is complete.

Message to PVR:

We don't need your stupid Rs.10 or Rs.20 discounts. I assume almost all of the people coming to that theater can afford the price tags. But don't act cheap and switch off air conditioning. Its a shame. I am writing this because I am fan of PVR and can't see you guys behaving so mean.

Kindly make PVR cinemas a good place to watch movies, rather than to wipe faces out of sweat.

Koncham Istam Koncham Kastam - A funny family movie

I might be a little late to express my opinions here, however I have seen it just over the weekend and thought I should not miss to express my views.

The movie is a perfect family entertainer. One would understand why Sri Brahmanandam garu has got the prestigious PadmaShri award recently. The comedy provided by him makes one gasp for breath. As usual Siddartdh movies are a mix of fun and family centiment. This movie is a must watch for everyone to understand Love. I am not speaking of the love which starts at college and ends up nowhere. The movie explains the responsibility that comes with LOVE.

Its about a relationship but not who is great relative to other - thats the message. And this is important in one's life.

My rating: 3.5/5
My Verbal Rating: Must watch - atleast once

The movie if the hero dies would have been an Anti-Indian film. Just as many other films the hero, even after being slughtered and shot at almost point blank miraclously survives and thus the movie is not anti Indian.

The story runs around a dull, boring and non-vibrating location somewhere in Delhi. I don't think atleast Delhites would accept such a pathetic Delhi. The first half is an absolute documentary. The second tries to show how Indians foolishly fight over religion and how brothers kill one another for nothing. Now the hero gets frustrated and wants to move back to his country, USA. However just for his love, tries to stay back and save the colony in which he gets killed. Oops sorry, Indian hero, he almost gets killed, however survives.

One thing I liked about the movie was it showed how the impolite police of India behave. How many ever movies show the arrogant Indian policeman, police in India will still never change.

Absolute waste of time and money. The shameless, sorry rather brainless director and producer are using the Rang De Basanti branding for this movie, however they will not succeed.

Also folks, don't get fooled by the few good songs that you hear on your CD, you will not actually see them on screen. They are just sung in pieces and bits at few scenes.

My rating is 1.5/5
My Verbal rating is "If you are pissed about Dev D, then to move on and get further pissed of you can watch this movie"

DevD - Time to ponder about TOI ratings system

With a lot of excitement, post reading the ratings provided by Times, I finally watched Dev D. Last week a friend of mine told me that it was a crap and I argued saying Times of India gave 5 out of 5.
At the initial stages there are a few vulgar scenes and dialogues, ofcourse people will not agree for the word vulgar as M@d@r C*od kind of words have already been made official. Post this nonsense, there is nothing in the movie except that the director tried to show its a story which resembles Devdas. Love was made fun of.

I would classify people who go for a movie into these kinds.
1. Comedy lovers
2. Story lovers
3. Action/thriller lovers
4. Horror lovers
5. People who go for the drama
6. People who want to have a squeeze in a theater
7. Misc
8. People with a lot of money and lot of time and don't know what to do

Leaving the 8th category no one else would have been happy watching such a dull movie. If you still want to go for this movie? please come back and post your experience.

Slumdog Millionaire reigns at Oscars

It was really a moment of ecstacy looking at all the awards showered upon the movie, Slumdog Millionaire at today's oscars. Broke down to tears, looking at a Indian movie, a Indian story making it to the big stage.

Here I would like to mention few ideas that spur to me.

1. AB sir, with respect, movies with reality exposing the horrible times a common man goes through in his life or something similar is what makes it to such award functions.
2. Aamir, if you got the secret, every movie you are trying for Oscars has one negative - "Language". May be you should think about making it in English too.
3. We should try to see that India is not producing such films by reducing the pain of the common man. We can miss Oscars, but we cannot have thousands of our brethren living such slum lives. Its time we act to bring them up.

Congrats to all the crew of SlumDog Millionaire.
